Empowering Farmers Through Smart Polyhouse Management: Collaboration with Sai Roses on Climate Monitoring Technology

06-12-2025

Details on score above existing knowledge/technology and the novelty of the work?
The visit to Sai Roses on 6th December 2025 enabled twelve farmers to acquire knowledge beyond their existing understanding of polyhouse cultivation. While most farmers were familiar with basic rose farming practices, they had limited exposure to large-scale, farmer-owned commercial operations and advanced climate-control techniques. The novelty of our work lies in the introduction of a real-time Temperature & Humidity Data Logger with display, which provides accurate environmental monitoring inside polyhouses. This technology bridges the gap between traditional experience-based decisions and data-driven cultivation methods. By witnessing the technology in a successful commercial setting like Sai Roses, farmers were able to clearly see how adopting modern monitoring tools can significantly improve crop quality, reduce losses, and increase productivity.'
Explanation of the science/technology behind the work?
The deployed Data Logger system functions on the principle of continuous climate monitoring using calibrated digital sensors. These sensors measure temperature and relative humidity at fixed intervals, ensuring that polyhouse conditions remain optimal for rose growth. The device stores readings and simultaneously displays real-time values, allowing farmers to make immediate adjustments to ventilation, irrigation, or shading. Maintaining precise temperature and humidity levels is critical in rose cultivation for controlling disease, ensuring consistent flower size, and improving color quality. By incorporating digital sensing, the technology provides scientific insight into microclimate behavior, helping farmers shift from guess-based decision-making to accurate, evidence-based management of their polyhouses.
Process of the research or process of development of technology.
The Temperature & Humidity Data Logger was developed through iterative field testing and calibration to ensure reliability under polyhouse conditions. After validating its accuracy and durability, the system was integrated into a user-friendly display unit for farmers. During the Sai Roses visit, our team installed the device inside one of the operational polyhouses to demonstrate its functionality in real conditions. Farmers were shown how to read values, interpret variations, and take corrective actions based on sensor feedback. The visit also included practical explanations of how sustained data collection supports long-term analysis, enabling farmers to fine-tune their cultivation practices across seasons. This hands-on demonstration helped the visiting farmers understand not just how the technology works, but how it directly influences rose quality and productivity.
Publication/Patent details as well as funding organization.
The technology demonstrated during the visit is a completed, functional system developed for practical agricultural applications. It is not associated with any formal publication or patent. The development and deployment were carried out as part of our organization’s ongoing efforts to promote smart farming solutions and support farmer training initiatives.
