People's Science Institute, Dehradun
PSI is registered as a society in New Delhi, under the Societies Act (1860). It provides technical and managerial support to communities and organizations, implements development programs, and undertakes public interest research. PSI’s activities are grouped under four units: (i) Natural Resources Management, (ii) Disaster Mitigation and Response, (iii) Environmental Quality Monitoring, and (iv) Innovative Projects. PSI have expertise in Community-led watershed development, environmental quality monitoring, disaster-safe housing, livelihood development, Agro-ecology, Participatory Ground Water Management (PGWM), Springshed Management, and river conservation. Its activities are spread all over India with a focus on the central-western Himalayan states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and the poverty-ridden districts of western Orissa and Bundelkhand. Its operational headquarters are located in Dehra Doon, Uttarakhand.
PSI is dedicated to nation building, with objectives of (i) promoting water, food and livelihoods security through integrated natural resources management, (ii) monitoring environmental quality and developing user-friendly monitoring techniques, and (iii) building community resilience for disasters and climate change.
